✨When a Balance PT Gets Motion Sickness…✨ Hello! I took a quick trip to the beautiful state of Oregon recently for some much needed R and R. Such a beautiful state! We went on an amazing whale watching tour ☺️ but I had more motion sickness symptoms than I usually do (note the rough waters in the video!) The captain of the boat was luckily very perceptive when he saw we were pretty green 🤢 and helped us out. Fortunately I’ve learned over the years to manage my triggers for motion sickness but I know some aren’t as lucky. Since the vestibular (balance) system is a connection between the eyes and the brain, sometimes signals can get mismatched or the brain can’t tolerate all of the stimuli from the environment very well. If you ever feel like you need more information managing triggers or aren’t happy with your symptoms after trying all the typical techniques, speak to a vestibular/balance physical therapist! Sometimes doing more in depth testing and slowly increasing your tolerance to triggering activities (what we call habituation) can be helpful to reach your goals. #adventure #vacation #physicaltherapy #vestibular #motionsickness https://vestibular.org/article/coping-support/living-with-a-vestibular-disorder/motion-sickness/
