🌟A cool fact about humans is that we have a reflex we use to keep our vision steady while we are walking! It’s called the vestibulo-ocular reflex (VOR) and it’s basically a connection between your eyes and your balance system. 🌟 ✨At first a lot of my patients say “I never do this in real life” but you are doing it constantly! You use it to scan the environment when crossing the street, when window shopping or grocery shopping and stepping over objects. I always add exercises for the VOR even if my patient isn’t having traditional vertigo/dizziness because I find that people with balance problems in general tend to have deficits with this reflex and training it has great carryover into daily life! ✨ 🌟For each stage of this progression I have patients find “targets” or objects to focus on when they look side to side/up and down. I usually start on flat surface in an environment that isn’t busy and progress to more busy environments, different surfaces and increase speed of head/body to make it more realistic. 🌟 #mckinneytx #allentx #balance #vestibularrehab #fallprevention #physicaltherapy #vestibular #wellness #fitness #activelifestyle #choosept Disclaimer: This video is for demonstration only! Please perform all of these exercises next to a wall or counter for safety if you feel unstable! If you have any questions or concerns please reach out to your MD or a physical therapist who specializes in vestibular issues!
