✨Prep for hip/knee replacements!✨ ✨The end of the year is the busiest time to be a PT! It’s mostly due to the fact that people are likely to utilize insurance benefits to get their knees or hips replaced. The nice thing about a joint replacement surgery is the patient’s deductible is met and PT is usually completely covered post-op…but…without any pre-op PT, surgery can be tough!✨ ✨Many times if patients are having pain leading up to a joint replacement surgery it’s been going on for a long time and the body is very good at compensating. Basically muscles start over working or underworking to avoid pain when walking and doing other activities.✨ ✨While a joint replacement surgery can replace the worn out joint surfaces, drastically decreasing pain, if the muscles imbalances aren’t addressed before surgery it can still be very difficult to perform activities of daily living immediately after surgery.✨ ✨Many times muscles can also “turn off” due to the surgical process interfering with the brain/muscle connection which can further limit mobility immediately post surgery.✨ ✨Doing pre-op exercises from your surgeon will always pay off! I mean…doing a couple of weeks of PT would be ideal 😃 but this is the next best thing!✨ ✨TRUST ME, I can always tell post-op the patient who did their exercises or did PT prior to surgery. They always recover much faster and move around much easier (think walking, getting up stairs, getting on/off the toilet and in/out of bed), even on day one. You won’t be feeling great after surgery so every little bit helps!✨ #fitness #recovery #painfree #postsurgeryrecovery #choosept *DISCLAIMER*: All exercises are different for different people, consult your surgeon or #physical therapist for a definitive list that is most appropriate for your particular surgery!
