✨Prevent falls with better posture!✨ ✨I have the “I’ve had bad posture forever, it’s not going to change” conversation with patients all the time 🤣. So why does working on posture early matter? 🤔✨ ✨As time goes on and muscles get tighter/weaker it gets harder and harder to maintain upright posture. This can lead to increased instability and forward momentum when walking, making it more likely for someone to fall due to lack of control. ✨ ✨Good news! If you notice yourself more off balance or stumbling more often (best to intervene before falls happen🤕) a physical therapist can help with improving muscle strength and flexibility in your back and legs. ✨ ✨Strength/flexibility is always an issue so that’s what we work on first but working on muscle memory (re teaching muscles to do their job correctly so they are most efficient) is also a must! This video is an exaggeration of what I normally see but I do occasionally see people as bad or worse.✨ ✨Overall this is not something that gets really terrible to the point where it affects balance overnight…but over time poor posture without intervention from a physical therapist can lead to falls and significantly increased PT visits due to the time it takes to increase muscle strength, improve flexibility and re teach muscles how to work more efficiently.✨ #posture #fallprevention #physicaltherapist #balance #healthylifestyle
